Welcome Mr Lattimore
Last Monday, 5 Red and Mr Whittle welcomed Mr Tom Lattimore to their classroom as he completes his final practicum placement before graduating from University of New England. At SPX we embrace the opportunity to share the expertise of our staff in assisting university students with their studies and the practical components of teaching. We know that Mr Lattimore will have a great learning and teaching experience until he leaves us at the end of Term 1.

NAPLAN Online 2021

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 11 and 21 May 2021.

In preparation for NAPLAN Online, our school will also be participating in practice tests between 22 March and 1 April. The practice test is a trial-run and key preparation activity for NAPLAN Online in May. It is not an assessment of student ability a

nd the tests will not be marked.

Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) to familiarize themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher or Mr Bill Whittle (NAPLAN Coordinator)

Kindergarten 2021

Our Kindergarten children have settled beautifully and we are certainly enjoying getting to know their unique personality traits and interests. This week the Leadership Team have the great privilege in contacting each family to talk about their experiences at St Pius X so far. The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, with the sense of welcome and community continually coming thorough. Parents were also surprised at how much learning had taken place; Kindergarten are certainly “Little Sponges” soaking up the life of school.

Clean Up Australia Day (School Clean Up Day)

This year, Clean Up Australia Day is on Saturday 7th March. To help play our part in keeping Australia beautiful by caring for our common home, SPX staff and students will participate in a Schools Clean Up, on Friday 5th March. This is a great way to inspire our students to learn about the impact of rubbish on our local environment while playing an active role in our community.
This event will take place after recess within the school grounds. Each grade will be allocated an area of the school, to help clean up.
Students will need their school hats and a pair of gloves for this event and will be under the close supervision of class teachers and school staff.
This event is a great conversation starter at home and if you would like to play a part as a family, find a local clean up spot in your local area to clean up in support on Saturday.
