COVID-19 Update
At  St Pius X Unanderra we are remaining COVID 19 vigilant. This means that we are continuing  to ensure the welfare and safety of all within our community. Unfortunately, this comes with a cost, particularly in terms of the community functions that we would usually enjoy together. However, at St Pius X we are thinking creatively on ways we can still acknowledge significant events and thank you for your ongoing support.

Father’s Day: Students will be working on special projects in class for their father or significant male in their life and these will be shared as the date draws nearer. Unfortunately, in consultation with the P and F executive there will be no Father’s Day Stall this year.

Parking Rangers

Council Rangers made one of their regular visits at school drop off last week.

A few tips for keeping children and others safe, and for avoiding infringements notices and fines when parking around the school:

Be aware of parking signage around the school

  • “The most common parking signs in school zones are 'No Stopping' and 'No Parking' signs.
  • “A 'No Stopping' sign means that the driver of a vehicle must not stop at any time on a length of road or in an area to which the 'No Stopping' sign applies - not for a minute, not for a second. “No Stopping” signs are installed in areas where clear sight is required for safety reasons, such as on the approach or departure to crossings or at intersections, Line of sight around schools is critical to both motorists and pedestrians alike.  When vehicles obstruct that line of sight, tragedies occur, particularly with small children who are so difficult to see.
  •  “A 'No Parking' sign means that you can only stop on a length of road or in an area to which the 'No Parking' sign applies to drop off or pick up passengers.
  • “Around schools these are commonly called ‘kiss and drop zones’. “You can’t stay in the zone longer than two minutes and the driver has to be within three metres of the vehicle at all times.

Thank you to those parents who continually exercise the utmost care when accessing the school.

Every child’s safety is everyone’s concern.

Premiers Reading Challenge
The Premiers Reading Challenge is a great opportunity for children to challenge themselves to read a variety of books.
Students reading logs are due by Friday 28th August.
We have so far had 110 children complete the challenge, this has been such a great effort.
Some students have completed more than one challenge. This is a great achievement.
Charlotte O has completed the K-2, 3-4 and the 5-6 challenges.
Max O and Xavier O have completed the 3-4, 5-6 and the 7-9 challenges.
Elisabeth S has completed the 3-4 and the 5-6 challenges.
Joshua S has completed the K-2 and the 3-4 challenges.
