Uniforms

Please continue to maintain a high standard for your child/ren's uniform. The uniform speaks outwardly of your child's respect of our school. A few gentle reminders:

Students are required to wear their hair in a neat and tidy manner.

  • Haircuts should be of an even grade.
  • Hair should not be in such a condition as to invite comment.
  • Long hair, below shoulder length is to be tied back or plaited, off the face and should not extend to cover the eyes.
  • Navy or red blue headbands, ribbons and scrunchies are to be worn in the hair.
  • Please ensure correct shoes are worn,

COVID-19 update and continued COVID-smart measures

NSW Health recently advised that we are already starting to see a rise in COVID-19 transmissions within the community, with a peak of cases expected in early December.

COVID-smart measures continue to be in place at St Pius X.

RAT TESTS are available for collection in the office.

Award System Information

As you are aware over the course of this year we have made changes to our Award system that automatically allocates Principal, MacKillop and Medallions based on Merit Awards.
When your child receives a Merit Award from their class teacher, parents receive an email outlining the reason for the Award along with an SMS indicating the child has received this Award.
You should have received at least one notification this year.
On every multiple of 5 Merits an automated email and sms will inform parents their child has received a Principal Award.
Mrs Harley will then enter this information each fortnight into the school newsletter.
The award will be given out following this acknowledgement at the fortnightly awards assembly.
The MacKillop award follows this process with each multiple of 15 Merits.
The Medallion process is also automated once a child has received 30 Merits and is given out at its own ceremony.
Our ACE Awards count as 1 Merit Award and are automated to add to the students merit count. You may have recently been informed that your child has received one for our Semester 2 awards.
If you did receive one you are welcome to attend the ceremony.
This process appears to be working really well. As with any change there is a transition period moving from the old system.
I am hoping to no longer need students to bring in awards as of 2023 and for classes in Kindergarten to Year 5 students will be solely working from the new system.
Therefore beginning in 2023 teachers will not be taking awards from home for students from any grade except Year 6.
When we changed over I set students on an Award level based on their school year and term. For any student who was set past a MacKillop level but had not yet received one in Year 4 down those students have been given a MacKillop Award.
Students may have missed other awards but have been set higher in our system and you do not need to do anything about this.
Students award levels in Year 6 2023 will be checked early in the year to have the whole school running in the new system with no one being required to bring in or sign off awards.
Thank you for your assistance in this transition process.

Library Returns
Library borrowing has been a great success this year.
Lots of students have enjoyed the joy of books and reading.
As the year comes to an end I need to stocktake.
Can I ask that all library books be returned as soon as possible.
There is a tub available in the library space.
Week 8 will be the last week of borrowing for all students.
I am sure Santa will bring some great books !!

PE & Sport

PE

In PE we are wrapping up our four weeks of the Cricket Blasters. The students have had a great time and have learnt many new skills for cricket. We want to thank Cricket NSW for providing us with such an amazing opportunity, and enabling us to have access to expert cricket coaches.

Keep a lookout for more cricket clinics being run by Cricket NSW throughout the January 2023 holidays.

We now move onto Tennis for the remainder of the term in PE.

SPORT

Dragon Tag Gala Day

In Week 7, Year 5 & Year 6 were lucky enough to participate in a Dragon Tag Gala Day organised by the St George Illawarra Dragon NRL development team. This day was held at Reed Park in Dapto, and teams from local Catholic Primary Schools all took part.

SPX had 5 teams participating in the day, 3 boys teams and 2 girls teams. All students played to the best of their ability and showed great sportsmanship throughout the day. They were a credit to the school. The day was a non-competitive day, which meant that the students could just focus on playing and having fun.

Our participation in the day would not have been possible without the hard work of Mrs Nunes, who organised all the teams, and Mrs Garretty, Mr Whittle & Mrs Sutton who attended on the day and organised the students.

An extra special thank you needs to be given to our parent coaches for each team:

Grant Taylor

George Tasevski

Your help was very much appreciated.

Today we had a visit from the amazing ladies from the Unanderra Chapter of the Catholic Women’s League who donated hampers for distribution to families in need. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support of these fantastic ladies.
