Giorgia’s artist statement:
Scripture - Matthew 2: 9-12.
I chose this scripture because the path the Three Wise Men took, reminds me of my own path in life that leads towards God.The map in my artwork shows my own life path and connects to Jesus and the Three Wise Men. My path to God began in Albion Park where my family once lived and leads to Kiama where I was born and then on to Mangerton where I currently live. The road ends at the silhouette of the stable. Directly under it, is my school and parish, St Pius X Unanderra. This part of my artwork is not only the birthplace of Jesus, it is also the birthplace of my Catholic schooling, and where my knowledge and faith in God has been nurtured and nourished. My artwork brings me joy as the Three Wise Men also brought joy to the story. The Star of Bethlehem, leads to Jesus in the stable which I made out of a map of Israel.
I have used collage as a medium to communicate my meaning through different layers, using paper, paint and oil pastels on a canvas.
