English is the Key Learning Area where students develop knowledge, skills and understandings about English language and literature.
The focus areas for each stage support students’ growing knowledge and understanding in the areas of:

Oral language and vocabulary are a focus of early literacy development and proceed written language. At St Pius X a systematic approach to phonics is based on the “Letters and Sounds” program using decodable texts to support learning.
In keeping with Diocesan expectations 6.25 - 8.75 hours of English will operate each week spread out throughout the morning blocks. It will consist of quality teaching and learning practises which are derived from the Diocesan Learning and Teaching Framework and NESA.
