ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL NEWS

Year 5 students from St Pius X have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Our Year 5 students embarked upon their recent overnight excursion to Canberra and had an amazing time. The journey was very educational allowing our young learners to immerse themselves in the rich history and vibrant culture of our nation's capital. Exploring iconic landmarks such as Old Parliament House and New Parliament House, our students gained firsthand insight into the democratic process and Australian governance. Additionally, their visit to the Australian Institute of Sport provided a unique opportunity to witness the dedication and discipline required for athletic excellence, inspiring dreams and aspirations. The interactive exhibits and mind-boggling experiments at Questacon ignited curiosity and encouraged our students to delve into the wonders of science. This excursion was a wonderful blend of learning and fun and a deeper appreciation for our nation's heritage and achievements. Well done to our Year 5 students for their exemplary behavior and enthusiasm throughout the trip, and a special thank you to our dedicated teachers, Mrs Garretty, Mr Hales, Ms Sartor, Mrs Covington for making this experience truly unforgettable. I know I had a wonderful time with them.
