PASSIVE PLAY

Four lunch times a week Passive Play is open in the new library space. The purpose of this play area is to provide students with a quieter environment they can use during lunchtime. During this time children play indoor quiet games with their peers all while under the supervision of teachers. Passive Play has become a very popular play environment over the last few weeks especially as we come to the end of Term 1.

MATHEMATICS

K-2 students this year will be following the new K-2 NSW Syllabus for Mathematics in 2023. Within the new syllabus there is a strong focus on developing reasoning skills to support a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Students are heavily exposed to the development of Mathematical language and vocabulary with an increased emphasis on place value. Content is structured to highlight the parallel connections across Number and Algebra, Measurement and Space, and Statistics and Probability, underpinned by the latest research. Throughout 2023, Years 3-6 will continue to use the NESA 2012 Mathematics syllabus covering topics across the same content areas.

In keeping with the Diocesan expectations Mathematics will be taught for a minimum of 5 hours throughout the week. It will consist of quality teaching and learning practices which are derived from the Diocesan Learning and Teaching Framework and NESA K-10 syllabus. Number sense generally begins each lesson where students have an opportunity to practice mathematical concepts through the use of oral language in a flexible and targeted manner. Other components of the lesson may include but are not limited to explicit instruction, small groups, independent work etc.
