ROAD SAFETY
We want to remind you of some important road safety guidelines for using the drop-off zones around our school.
Recently, there have been several accidents in this area, along with complaints from bus drivers and recorded traffic offences by traffic officers.
Please review these guidelines carefully:
Please adhere to the 40km/h speed limit in our school zones in Cummins and Hargreaves St. This helps to protect children on their way to and from school. The lower speed limit reduces the risk and potential severity of a crash.
School zone signs, dragon’s teeth road markings and flashing lights improve the visibility and driver awareness of school zones.
Please drive under the school zone speed limit when school zones are active. Increased fines and demerit points apply for certain school zone offences.
Independent Drop-Off on Cummins Street- Marked as “No Parking: as per NSW RULES
In this zone the vehicle can stop for less than 2 minutes if you stay within 3m of your vehicle, if you’re:
-
dropping off or picking up passengers
-
loading or unloading items.
For the flow of traffic, this zone is best suited for children who can safely get out of the car by themselves. If your child needs help, please consider using the car park opposite the school and walk them to the crossing supervisor.
• No Stopping on Zig-Zag Lines: The drop-off zone ends before the zig-zag lines; please do not stop on these lines or in the “No Stopping’ ZONE.
Alternate Drop-Off on Maynes Parade: There is an additional drop-off zone on Maynes Parade. Children can safely cross with the crossing supervisor.
Bus Zone on Cummins Street: Cars cannot queue in the bus zone, as this space is for buses and local traffic to turn right onto Cummins Street.
Please do not park in the WESTS premises. If using the car park opposite the school please refrain from driving off the curb.
Please share this information with anyone who drops your child off at school. Students are not to walk through this carpark unsupervised.
Please practice patience, safety, and respect when using these zones to help improve traffic flow and safety for everyone.
The Local Council has been contacted about our drop-off area and will advise the school on further action if needed.
Thank you for your cooperation and attention to these important safety measures.

PUBLIC SPEAKING
On Friday the 25th of October, Claudia Davis from Year 5 and Joshua Suartama from Year 6, represented St Pius X at the Diocesan Public Speaking Competition at regional level.
Both students presented their well researched and rehearsed speeches to their vast audience, captivating them with their topics, ‘There is a nobility in the duty to care for creation through little daily actions’ - Pope Francis and ‘Use It Or Lose It.”
They are to be commended for their excellent presentation skills and effort.
Well done!
