Dear Parents and Carers,
This week has been a flurry of activity as we head toward the end of another very busy term. Mrs Chrostowski attended the Diocesan Launch of Catholic Mission Month today at St Michael’s Catholic Parish Primary School, with Laynie Hill and Isaac Llamas, members of our SRC representing out school. Catholic Mission is the Pope’s international Mission agency in Australia. It is an international organisation that partners with communities helping them to flourish by supporting grassroots projects, including healthcare, education and spiritual care. Here at St Pius X, our school community will be supporting these works by hosting a Sock-It-To-Poverty Day in Term 4.
Today our community also marked a very important day in our wellbeing calendar through R U OK Day. This year’s theme is “Ask R U OK? Any Day" because life happens every day. It’s a reminder to check in with each other not just on this special day, but consistently throughout the year. Our emotions, much like the weather, are constantly shifting and often unpredictable. Throughout any given day, we may experience a range of feelings, from sadness and frustration to joy, excitement, and peace. Just as we can observe and interpret the weather, we can also become more attuned to the emotional states of those around us and our own feelings. R U OK Day encourages us to notice these emotional fluctuations, approach each other with greater empathy, and cultivate self-awareness about our own emotional well-being.
Finally, what a wonderful celebration of colour and music for our students through our school disco – events like this do not just happen and we are so thankful to the staff (special mention to Disco Queen, Mrs Staples) and parent volunteers who graciously donate their time to support events such as this. We are so very grateful to each and every one of you for all that you do. As we head into the weekend the P&F will be hosting the local election BBQ and Bake Sale on Saturday onsite at St Pius X, so if you are able to lend a hand or donate a sweet treat that would be wonderful.
We look forward to continuing our learning journey with our students over the next two weeks with just the slightest aroma of holidays floating in the air.
Warm regards
Ms Louise Sartor - Acting Principal
Unanderra Skate Park Opening
On Friday 13th September, our school community is being represented by our SRC leadership team members, at the grand opening of the brand new playground at Unanderra Oval.
Previous St Pius X students were part of the consultation and design process facilitated by Wollongong Council in 2023.
We are very proud of the efforts of William Staples, Leon Atinga, Harvey Martin and Saffron McNally Bates and cannot wait for our students and the wider community to enjoy the new facilities for many years to come.

Year 5 Overnight Excursion to Canberra
On August 15th, Year 5 travelled to Canberra for an overnight excursion, which linked with our History Unit ‘Australia as a Nation.’
We visited many places while away, including Old and New Parliament House, the War Memorial, the Institute of Sport, as well as our favourite stop, Questacon.
This was a great couple of days, which were quite memorable.
LOCAL ELECTION
The local election is this Saturday, 14th September.
Each year the St Pius Cake stall and election BBQ raises thousands of dollars for our school community. If you have a passion for baking or would like to donate purchased goods to make our cake stall one to remember, feel free to drop items at the school office on the Friday 13th September or at the election BBQ on the Saturday. If you know what you’d like to bring please let us know what you're planning to bring we’d love to know in advance so we can plan a varied stall.
We also need plenty of helpers on the day both to cook the BBQ and serve. All help is greatly appreciated and there is no pressure to stay for an extended time, we’ve created a Volunteer sign up site where you can nominate an hour (or more) that you’d like to help.
And a special shout out to our school community, the wonderful staff who organised the Father’s Day Feast Day celebrations and to everyone who volunteered.
WHAT A WONDERFUL COLOURFUL DAY!!!!
Regards
Mel McCluskey
