Dear Parents and Carers,
This morning I farewelled our Year Five students, as they excitedly embarked on their overnight excursion to Canberra. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to visit our nation’s capital and important landmarks. I sincerely thank the Year Five parents for preparing the children and ensuring they had a warm jacket!
Also, to the staff accompanying the students. I am so grateful that they have taken time away from their families to allow this event to happen. I look forward to welcoming the children and teachers back tomorrow afternoon and I am sure they will all need a Saturday sleep in!
Last week we had several visitors to our school, including members of the Catholic Education Office and the Director of Schools Mr Peter Hill. It was wonderful to celebrate our achievements thus far, including:
- A strong link established between school and parish
- An upward trend in enrolments
- Excellence in learning (our 2021 NAPLAN results saw all students above the national average in all domains of literacy and numeracy)
St Pius X is a school that encourages excellence in learning and the faith development of our pupils. Every child matters and I am privileged to be able to walk the journey with you and your child(ren). I appreciate your honest interactions with staff and your support of the school through your words and actions.
Yours Sincerely,
Pauline Chrostowski - Principal

Communication
If you would like to raise any issue regarding your child’s learning and wellbeing, our staff welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your child. We ask that you contact your child’s classroom teacher in the first instance. The best way to do this is by:
- contacting the teacher via email to arrange a time to talk. You can email info@spxudow.catholic.edu.au or the teacher directly (emails are available on the website). We ask that emails are sent between 8am and 5 pm and they will generally be responded to within 24 hours. Alternatively phone the school office and ask that your child's teacher return your call.
- In the second instance, if you still have concerns or need clarification please contact your Stage Leader:
- Early Stage One : Mrs Clare Suartama
- Stage One (1-2): Ms Louise Sartor
- Stage Two (Years 3-4): Mr Bill Whittle
- Stage Three (Years 5-6): Mrs Christine Nunes
If the matter is urgent please contact the school office on (02) 4271 3550 and Mrs Chrostowski (Principal) will speak with you.

Steam MAD Winners
Congratulations to Addison, Sienna, Katelyn and Noah on making it through to the next level of the nation wide STEM MAD competition.
Wish them luck as they travel to Melbourne to represent SPX and the Diocese of Wollongong.
They'll be presenting their project to over 1500 delegates from the education, STEM and industry sectors on September the 6th.
Their project, entitled Hydration Station 2.0, aimed to solve the problem of water bottle storage within the classroom. Their design comprised of a 3D printed component and recycled materials. Their presentation was complemented a extensive description of the process they went through as well as having a comprehensive reflection of how they would improve in the future.
Good luck kids!

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION
On Monday, 15th August the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
On this Feast, Catholics traditionally celebrate Mary ascending to heaven. The tradition is that ‘God took Mary, body and soul, to heaven after her life on
earth had come to an end’.
Students of St Pius X will mark this special feast day with a liturgical experience within their classroom and associated learning experiences.
SAVE THE DATE – FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST
On THURSDAY 1st SEPTEMBER we would like to welcome all Fathers, Grandfathers and Father figures onsite to enjoy a special ‘Father’s Day Breakfast’ at St Pius X.
The breakfast will commence at 8am and conclude at 9am.
More details to follow soon!
ST PIUS X FEAST DAY - FRIDAY 19 TH AUGUST
Next Friday (19th August) we will be celebrating the Feast Day of St Pius X (21st August) as a whole school community with a BLUE and RED MUFTI DAY!
Every student is invited to dress in red and blue mufti clothes for the day. Please ensure that students are wearing enclosed shoes, have covered shoulders and have a hat. Students will participate in a liturgical experience throughout the day and undertake a variety of learning experiences to learn about St Pius X and the legacy that he has left behind.
Please make special note of the FEAST DAY MEAL DEAL available to order online through the My School Connect app.
School Uniform - Black School Shoes
A reminder that our uniform policy at St Pius X stipulates black, school shoes to go with the Winter and Summer uniform, no canvas please.
We are seeing a number of students now wearing what is more like a black jogger.
I ask that parents make every effort to ensure students are in the correct uniform at all times.

The Unanderra 2 class have settled into term 3 with ease.
We have been busy working on literacy and geography units - The Australian Continent.
The students have also enjoyed their STEAM sessions with Mr Hales on a Thursday.
It was great to have grandparents visit our classroom on G-Day and share some time with the students.
Regards, U2 staff.
