Dear Parents and Carers,
This week marks the end of Term 3, 2022 and is therefore a perfect opportunity to pause and reflect on the term that was and think about all that we are grateful for as a school community.
Gratitude is one of many positive emotions. It's about focusing on what's good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have. Gratitude is pausing to notice and appreciate the things that we often take for granted, like having a place to live, food, clean water, friends, family, even technology.
As a school community there are many things that we can be thankful for.
We can be thankful that we are all part of a school community that aims to foster positive relationships between students, parents, teachers and our parish. That focus is placed on providing a rigorous academic curriculum whilst maintaining a balanced focus on the spirituality and wellbeing of all.
We can be thankful that we learn and work in an environment that is vibrant and welcoming for all, where all talents are celebrated no matter how big or small.
It is here in the final stretch towards the holidays that I implore you to take a moment and consider all that you as carers and parents are thankful for.
At this time in the year, I wish you all a safe and happy school holiday. Remember to take the time to rest and rejuvenate yourself as a family and individually.
Go gently,
Christine Nunes - Acting principal

Year 6 Confirmation
Over the past term our Year Six Students have been preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Confirmation marks the continuation of the journey first begun at Baptism. During Confirmation candidates receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and are strengthened in their faith.
Please keep these children in your prayers at this time.
A huge thank you to the Year 6 teachers Mrs Frew, Mrs Starcic and Mrs Tighe, along with Sr Kerry, Ms Sartor and Fr Duane for helping our students prepare over the last few months for the special sacrament.
Prayer for Confirmation Candidates
Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people, so that they may believe in You and in Jesus whom You sent.
Look kindly on all candidates for Confirmation as they listen to Your voice. Open their hearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfilment the good work that You have begun in them.
As we prepare these children for Confirmation, make each of us an instrument of Your love.
Teach us to appreciate what is holy in others, and to be patient with what we do not understand.
Deepen our faith in the Gospel and help us to pass it on by our example. We pray that You will continue to guide us and sustain us.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
School Hats
If you have recently purchased a new school hat from Lowes and been given one with a white emblem embroidered on it you are able to return it and receive the correct hat with the embroidered emblem in red. Simply take the hat to Lowes in Figtree and they will replace it, no questions asked.
Catholic Mission Launch – October is World Mission Month
On Tuesday 13th September Mrs Chrostowski and our school captains Eva and John attended the Catholic Mission Launch at St Thomas Moore Church in Ruse. The launch signifies the upcoming mission month of October and introduces the fundraising focus for this year.
2022 will see Catholic Mission funds go to support vulnerable children in Ethiopia who are at risk of malnutrition and facing food insecurity.
The St Pius X community will raise much needed funds toward this social justice initiative during Term 4 – MORE DETAILS TO COME!
Staff Spirituality Day – Pupil Free Day
On Monday 10th October, staff of St Pius X will be coming together to participate in our annual staff spirituality day.
This year we will be heading off site and engaging in a day focused on our ecological conversion journey by exploring aspects of eco theology and eco spirituality deepening our understanding of Laudato Si' and our call to care for our common home. It is an opportunity to reflect on our faith and what it means to be a human being on this planet with a 21st Century understanding of our world, its origins and complexities that invites us to have a change of mind and heart so as to hear and respond to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.

Screen Time and School Holidays
As the school holidays approach it may be time to relook at the agreements you have with your child about the use of technology at home.
Promoting healthy online habits includes a balanced use of devices supports children to use digital technologies with confidence.
Your routines at home can include device-free times and places in your home.
It is important to remember that devices should always be kept out of children’s bedrooms. The temptation to use the device instead of sleeping is too great for primary school aged children.
You will find further information from the eSafety Commissioner .
IMPORTANT: NSW Police Notification re: Gel Guns
CSNSW has issued an update regarding Gel Guns and the potential penalties that may apply if a student is found to be in possession of one (please see attachment below).
Message from Fr Duane
Dear Parishioners,
Please find attached this week's bulletin.
Fr Duane Fernandez
Parish Priest
Immaculate Conception and St Therese Parishes
Unanderra 2 enjoyed a wonderful day at the Wollongong Botanical Gardens as part of our Science program this term.
We loved exploring all of the different plants in the gardens, observing mini beasts and their habitats, and learning about propagation and planting our own seeds.
