Dear Parents and Carers,
I recently received written feedback from our Cyclic Review, in the format of a written report. The panel, comprising of external consultants and members of the Catholic Education Office, Diocese of Wollongong noted that:
“The school community is focused, committed to learning growth, inclusive, relational, and collaborative and in an authentic partnership with the parish.”
It is pleasing to read such affirmations, as our focus is on the faith development of students and excellence in learning. The panel elaborated further by saying that:
“The culture and human climate of the school is superb and the panel recognises the school as possessing significant future potential.”
I congratulate the community on an outstanding report and note the recommendation moving forward that:
“As the school develops its next strategic plan and as enrolments grow, it will draw on new approaches and resources to assist in the development of an ambitious, highly strategic plan focused on student growth and improvement.”
I am very proud of St Pius X and it was fitting to read the Cyclic Review report on the Feast Day of our Patron Saint; Pope Pius X (2 June 1835 – 20 August 1914), born Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, his humble background was no obstacle in relating to a personal God and to people whom he loved genuinely. Pius X gained his strength, his gentleness and warmth for people from the source of all gifts, the Spirit of Jesus.
My hope is that St Pius X continues to be a community of great strength, possessing a warmth and gentleness for others.
"Educating isn't a profession but an attitude, a way of being. In order to educate you must go out of yourselves and be amidst the young, accompanying them in the stages of their growth, standing beside them."
Finally, this Thursday 25th August and Friday 26th August I will be attending a Principal Overnight Retreat at the Hermitage in Mittagong. Mrs Christine Nunes will be Acting Principal, and Ms Louise Sartor Acting Assistant Principal.
Please direct any urgent enquiries to them.
Yours Sincerely,
Pauline Chrostowski - Principal

It was heart-warming to have a visit from our local chapter of the CWL.
These ladies do an amazing job in supporting families sin need.
They graciously donated hampers and grocery vouchers for families in need.
TIERED CONTINUUM OF SUPPORT
At St Pius X both learning outcomes and behaviour support are provided through a three-tiered continuum, comprising universal, targeted and intensive support as represented in Figure 1.2 below.
Tier 1 (Universals) involves systems and practices encompassing differentiated approaches that meet the needs of all students, consistently implemented across all school settings, non-classroom and classroom by all staff.
Example: Explicit classroom teaching of a mathematical concept.
Teaching of expected behaviours to the class group.
Tier 2 (Targeted) involves interventions for some students with identified additional needs achieved through specific programs and targeted support.
Example: SPLICED Gifted Program
Macq and Mini Lit small group booster lessons in literacy for Years One to Six.
Booster lessons Social and Emotional Learning for Identifies students.
Tier 3 (Intensive) involves interventions for a few individual students with identified substantial and extensive needs through targeted intensive support, and case collaboration.
Example: Individualised Behaviour Plan or learning program.

Message from Fr Duane
Dear Parishioners,
Please find attached this week's bulletin.

Immaculate Conception and St Therese Parishes
The students in both Green and Red classes enjoyed a visit last week from the staff at Wollongong City Council.
The purpose of the visit was to gain students voices for a local playground upgrade.
We came up with some great ideas and selected some of our favourite things to do at the playground based on preferred equipment.
Students worked alongside council staff to give valuable input into the planning and design stage of the project.
