Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week it was my great privilege to attend the First Holy Communion celebrations at Immaculate Conception Church Unanderra. The children displayed reverence throughout the ceremonies and were an absolute credit to our Parish School, St Pius X Unanderra.
I sincerely thank Sr Kerry Gardiner and Ms Louise Sartor in their role as Sacramental Leaders. Also, to Mrs Kylie Hertsch and Miss Anna Jaklic, class teachers for preparing the children so beautifully. Finally, to Father Duane, his Homily was powerful and captured the true meaning of this important sacrament in the lives of the children.
These events certainly had Father Duane and myself reflecting on the strong partnership between parish and school and how fortunate we are to have so many adults dedicated to the faith formation of the children. Following this, I was pleased to be able to attend the recent launch of Bishop Brian Mascord’s statement on the vison of our Diocese- Bearers of Christs Love, alongside Father Duane. This day was held at the Hermitage in Mittagong and echoed the work that we are doing here at St Pius X Unanderra.
“Our schools and parishes will recognise the integral connection between the two, and the necessary relationship of active collaboration between a school, parish priests and the wider Catholic community”
Most Rev Brian G Macord Bishop of Wollongong
Yours Sincerely,
Pauline Chrostowski - Principal

PE & Sport
PE
In PE we are wrapping up our four weeks of the Cricket Blasters. The students have had a great time and have learnt many new skills for cricket. We want to thank Cricket NSW for providing us with such an amazing opportunity, and enabling us to have access to expert cricket coaches.
Keep a lookout for more cricket clinics being run by Cricket NSW throughout the January 2023 holidays.
We now move onto Tennis for the remainder of the term in PE.

Dragon Tag Gala Day
In Week 7, Year 5 & Year 6 were lucky enough to participate in a Dragon Tag Gala Day organised by the St George Illawarra Dragon NRL development team. This day was held at Reed Park in Dapto, and teams from local Catholic Primary Schools all took part.
SPX had 5 teams participating in the day, 3 boys teams and 2 girls teams. All students played to the best of their ability and showed great sportsmanship throughout the day. They were a credit to the school. The day was a non-competitive day, which meant that the students could just focus on playing and having fun.
Our participation in the day would not have been possible without the hard work of Mrs Nunes, who organised all the teams, and Mrs Garretty, Mr Whittle & Mrs Sutton who attended on the day and organised the students.
An extra special thank you needs to be given to our parent coaches for each team:
Dave Coopes
Chris Campbell
Grant Taylor
George Tasevski
Your help was very much appreciated.
Hamper Donations
Today we had a visit from the amazing ladies from the Unanderra Chapter of the Catholic Women’s League who donated hampers for distribution to families in need. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support of these fantastic ladies.

Year 6 Camp
Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Year 6 camp alongside the Year 6 teachers and Mr Hales. Throughout the three day camp the students demonstrated skills of leadership, perseverance and pushing themselves to their limits. I was so proud of the manner in which they represented the school and this was echoed in the vast amounts of compliments that were shared by the staff at The Tops from management to cleaning staff.

Unanderra 1 students participated in circuit activities including footy passes, javelin throwing, high jump, Tug of war, frisbee throwing and parachute games before competing in some running races.
The boys also had a fabulous time at the SPX Colour Run on Friday 25th November.
It was amazing to see so many students and families having such a great time.
