YEAR FIVE
Dear Families,
Uniform Reminders
As we journey into the summer holidays, it is a great opportunity to ensure:
- hems are taken down, where necessary.
- school shoes are appropriate i.e., black shoes that can be polished, either leather or another suitable material that is NOT canvas.
- Haircuts are even grade and are of such that are not to invite attention. Hair below the shoulder needs to be tied back, no colour, shaved patterns or bleach please.
- Sport shoes may be coloured (No high-tops please).
- Sleepers and studs are the accepted earing style, please note a child with a single piercing or multiple piercing will be given the option to insert a clear stud or remove the earing.
Thank you for your support, as the uniform speaks of the outward respect the students have for their school.
Farewell Kathy Hicks
At the Parents and Friends meeting last week I had the opportunity to farewell Kathy for her tireless work for our community. Her dedication, commitment and passion has seen the fruition of many major projects; including the Digital sign, Adventure Playground and Shade Tents.
Kathy has worked hard to ensure all of our students benefited from the fundraising ventures and she will be greatly missed. Thank you, Kathy, for all you have done for our school, during the ten years that both Thomas and Katie were students here.
We will officially farewell Kathy as a community on Friday 16th December at our final assembly.
Staffing 2023
- Thank you to Mrs Clare Suartama for her outstanding work in the area of diverse learning. Clare will hand over her leadership position in 2023 and will continue in her role as permanent classroom teacher.
- Farewell Ms Nerida Sutton, our Physical Education teacher extraordinaire who will be taking up a career as a firefighter. I wish Nerida all the very best in her new role and thank her for her dedication to St Pius X in 2022.
- Mrs Jodie Maloney, School Support Officer will take up a position at St Michael’s Thirroul, I thank Jodie for her ongoing commitment to the role and the thorough attention she has given to the students in her care.
- Catholic Care has also advised me that Mrs Kath Walsh our School Counsellor will be leaving us at the conclusion of this year. I thank Kath for her tireless dedication to our community in the area of Counselling. Mrs Chantel Garcia, an experienced Counsellor from the Macarthur Region will replace Kath for the 2023 school year.
New Appointments
- We welcome Mrs Nicole Checkley to the newly established role of Literacy and Numeracy Support teacher. Nicole comes with a wealth of experience, including a Masters of Special Education.
- Mrs Katrina Fiel will take on the role of Creative Arts teacher (Kindergarten to Year Six). This is a wonderful new opportunity for our community, Katrina holds a Bachelor of Music and has extensive experience in the Creative Arts across Kindergarten to Year Twelve. All classes will have a 1-hour lesson once a week. I am sure you will join me in making Katrina welcome.
As a result of the above and an increase in enrolments, I am delighted to announce we will be running thirteen classes, with additional support in the early years.
After an extensive recruitment process, I would like to congratulate Mrs Kylie Hertsch, who will act in the capacity as Middle Leader 2 for six months. Mrs Shay Linder will continue this role on her return from maternity leave.
Mrs Kylie Hertch will take on the role of Sport Coordinator K to 6, with teachers now teaching the Physical Education component of this Key Learning Area.
Mrs Chloe Tighe was the successful applicant for Middle Leader 1 and will oversee Gifted Education and coordinate our Indigineous initiatives. Congratulations Chloe!

Aspect Unanderra 1 and 2
The last couple of weeks have been wonderful in the Unanderra 1 and 2 classrooms. The students have participated in many events including the Unanderra 1 class visiting Santa and the local library, Unanderra 2 class finally visiting Farmer Rob at the Jamberoo Dairy Farm.
Both classes enjoyed being invited to join in the Colour Run and the SPX Christmas Concert and all had a wonderful time.
Thank you to the SPX community for welcoming us this year.
Regards, Aspect Staff
