Dear Parents and Caregivers of St Pius X,
Last week we watched our Year 6 students celebrate a very important sacrament in their faith journey; their Confirmation. With the support of their teachers, Sr Kerry, Ms Louise Sartor, Father Duane and Bishop Brian the children were well prepared for making their Confirmation. Attending such an event brings to light our strong sense of faith and community at St Pius X. I take this opportunity to publicly congratulate our Year 6 confirmation candidates.
As we approach the conclusion of Semester One, our dedicated teachers have been diligently preparing reports that showcase your child's progress and achievements throughout the semester and give you some insight into your child’s learning.
Semester One reports will be made available via Compass on Friday 23 June (Week 9) for students in Years 1-6. Reports are written in line with the requirements of the NSW K-10 syllabuses for the Australian Curriculum and grades are awarded to students following the Common Grade Scale. Following this distribution of reports, we will be holding Parent-Teacher interviews in Week 10.
Year 5 students will have their reports made available via Compass this Friday, and parent-teacher interviews will take place during Week 9. This adjustment is due to Mrs. Garretty being on leave in Week 10. Kindergarten students will also have parent-teacher interviews in Week 10; however, they will not receive a written report at this time.
When reading through your child’s report it is crucial to recognise that these reports reflect student progress within the current semester and are not a comparison of growth from previous years or semesters. Consequently, it is possible that your child may receive a different grade compared to last year's report, as they have been focusing on different topics and objectives aligned with the syllabus outcomes.
We encourage you to take the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions during the upcoming Parent-Teacher interviews, where you can gain further understanding of your child's development, celebrate their successes and address any concerns or questions you may have.

Sacrament of Confirmation
On Thursday 8th June, students from Year 6 received the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Immaculate Conception Parish. This beautiful celebration was celebrated by Bishop Brian and Fr Duane. The confirmees have displayed dedication and reverence throughout their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation and have embraced the gifts of the Holy Spirit and are ready to share their faith with others, becoming beacons of love, compassion, and service. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the families, sponsors, Sr Kerry, and all those who have supported these students on their faith formation journey. Your guidance and encouragement have played a significant role in their spiritual growth. As a school community, we will continue to support and uplift our newly confirmed students as they embark on this next chapter of their faith-filled lives. May they find strength, wisdom, and joy in their ongoing relationship with God. Once again, congratulations to all the students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation. We are immensely proud of your commitment and wish you abundant blessings on your spiritual journey.
Hot Choc & Donut Day - St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Wednesday 7th June students of St Pius X wore their winter wooly pyjamas to school for the day and enjoyed a warm hot chocolate and cinnamon donut. We are very proud to share that our school community raised $1360.00 which will be going directly to St Vincent de Paul Unanderra chapter in the support of their Winter Appeal for 2023. Staff of St Pius X collected snack items to support the Vinnies Van - if you have any snack items that you would like to give toward this ongoing initiative please feel free to leave these items at the school office.
We are so very grateful for the generous giving of our school community and know that it will be put to good use within our wider community.

SCHOOL PHOTO INFORMATION
On Monday 19 June 2023 St Pius X will hold “School Photos day”. Students are asked to wear their full Winter school uniform with correct socks and footwear on the day of their photograph. Their hair styles should be reflective of how they wear it each day and the normal school expectations. Please do not send children in their sports uniform.
Order processing:
The School Photographer envelopes have been previously sent home with your children. Please read this important information about the upcoming photo day on June 19, 2023 and the ordering process for 2023.
Ordering Process: All purchasing for school photographs will be done online. Follow the instructions on the envelopes to place your order.
Return to School: Please DO NOT return the envelopes until photo day on June 19, 2023.
Sibling Photos: To order sibling photos, collect an additional envelope from the school office. It contains instructions on how to order sibling photographs online. This needs to be done by the end of this week - Friday 16 June 2023
AFTERNOON DISMISSAL
At St Pius X, we firmly believe that every minute of teaching and learning time is valuable and plays a crucial role in your child's education. Therefore, we kindly request your support in ensuring a smooth transition during afternoon pick-up.
We ask parents to collect their children from the designated areas at the end of the day. We understand that it is natural for children to become excited and easily distracted when they spot their parents through the windows. However, this excitement can lead to lost teaching time as it takes time to refocus excited children back to lessons or packing up procedures.
At St Pius X we value open communication between parents and teachers, as it allows us to work together effectively to support your child's growth and learning. If you have something you'd like to discuss with your child’s class teacher, we kindly ask that you either wait until the students have been dismissed or reach out to them via email. This is to ensure that your concerns or important information can be shared without interruptions and that everyone is fully present and able to give their undivided attention to the conversation.
LIBRARY NEWS
K-2 Home readers
As we approach the end of the term, we want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support in your child's education and reading journey. As a school we are currently checking and updating our readers. The recent introduction of Australian Decodables online across all classes for home reading, means that unless otherwise specified, each child has only one book at home at a time.
Our books are a very valued resource therefore, we kindly request your assistance in returning all home readers to school by this Friday, 16 June. Please gather all the books your child currently has and ensure they are safely returned to their class teachers. By doing so, you will help us in preparing for next term. Children will continue to have access to Australian Decodables online.
PARENT HELPERS: If there are any parents who would like to help with book covering, please see the office for a pack of books and contact OR to put your name on the book covering register for anytime we need some books covered.
PASSIVE PLAY
SPX students have the opportunity during lunch times to participate in a more passive option of play in the Library. At times our playground can be a busy place so a space for our students to play more quietly with friends with the support of teachers is always beneficial. Our students can choose from construction activities, board games and drawing while in the Library. You can see that students from all grades enjoy this time in Passive Play.
SPX GALA NIGHT
INFLATABLE WORLD PARTY
Please see below link and attachments for flyer and QR code regarding inflatable play centre night.
FROM the STEM ROOM
During Week 10, Mr Hales will have the STEM room open for parents to visit and ask general questions about all things STEM and learning.
The STEM room will be open on Wednesday 28th June from 3.30 pm - 5.30 pm, this will coincide with parent teacher conferences so you may like to visit Mr Hales and the STEM room while you are onsite.
If you wish to make an appointment with Mr Hales to discuss your child individually you are welcome to make contact with Mr Hales to organise an appropriate appointment time via HalesA01@dow.catholic.edu.au or through the school office.
