Dear Parents and Carers,
It was with great pleasure that I was able to announce the Student Leadership Team for 2023 earlier in the week. Collectively this group of children will be the voice for our students and also represent the school at various events throughout the year.
At our end of year Whole School Mass on Thursday 8th December our outgoing Captains, Eva B and John C and Vice Captains Maximus O and Elisabeth S will hand over the light of leadership to our incoming captains, Owen S and Emma V and Vice Captains Sebastian R and Victoria N.
I warmly invite our parent community to this Mass at Immaculate Conception Unanderra.

COVID-19 update and continued COVID-smart measures
NSW Health recently advised that we are already starting to see a rise in COVID-19 transmissions within the community, with a peak of cases expected in early December.
COVID-smart measures continue to be in place at St Pius X and are vital in allowing us to keep our school operational while prioritising student and staff wellbeing
Rapid antigen tests (RATs)
Please continue to test ,whenever your child is showing symptoms or has been exposed to COVID-19.
With the expected spike in COVID-19 cases in the community early next month a supply of RAT tests are now available at the office. Please pop in o collect.
SPORT NEWS
In Week 2 of this Term we had two students compete at the NSWPSSA Primary Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park.
Tiffany T competed in the 11 Yr Girls Shot Put and placed a very impressive 10th with a throw of 9.82m. This means that Tiffany is the 10th best shot put athlete for 11 year old girls in all of NSW! Congratulations Tiffany, an outstanding effort.
Jacob L competed in the 10 Yr Boys Discus and achieved a highly commendable 23rd position, with a throw of 23.52m. Congratulations Jacob, an amazing achievement.
SPX is extremely proud of these athletes, it is quite the achievement to qualify for the Championships. We are looking forward to seeing what you can accomplish in the coming years! A very exciting athletics future for them both.
Sports Awards
Thank you to Mrs Sutton who attended the Sports Awards on Friday night.
Addison, Molly and Rocco represented SPX and have certainly achieved a lot in the area of Sport.
PE
This term students in Yr 2 - Yr 6 are being treated to 4 weeks of specialised Cricket coaching. Starting in Wk 5, through to Wk 8, Cricket NSW are running a program that incorporates all the skills required to play cricket and how to play the game.
Students can look forward to building on their skills and learning some new games as they progress through the 4 week program.
Welcome to our Kindergarten 2023 Students
This term we welcomed our Kindergarten 2023 students and their parents and carers to their playgroup sessions. This opportunity for transition to school has been disrupted over the last two years due to COVID 19 restrictions and we were pleased to be able to resume the eight sessions throughout the term.
We have had very excited Kindergarten 2023 students and their parents and carers, who have thoroughly enjoyed meeting new classmates and other parents and carers. We particularly welcome our newest parents to St Pius X and know you will enjoy the community and opportunity for your child to grow and learn in our rich and vibrant Catholic community. I would like to thank Mrs Kim Norrie and Mrs Clare Suartama for their organisation of the playgroup sessions.
Collaborative Leadership Improving Learning Sessions
This week teachers from Years 3 – 6 were released from class to undertake professional development with Ms Sartor (Instructional Coach) and Mrs Nunes (Assistant Principal) within the area of numeracy. Within these sessions teachers discerned over current data sets and collaboratively planned lesson sequences to bolster student understanding within their identified areas of need.
Advent – Commences Sunday 27th November
Advent is such a busy time of year and we so easily forget that—at its heart—it is meant to be a time of preparation, waiting and hope for the coming of Jesus into our world and lives.
To remind us of this, for the past nine years, the diocese has published an annual Advent and Christmas Program that provides an opportunity for us to be still each day, listen to God, and come to know that Jesus is the whole reason for our being. Like Mary proclaimed in her Magnificat:
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord.”
LUKE 1:46

Excitement was high as SPX Aspect students from years 3-6 had the opportunity to attend our school camp in Berry last week!
We had a wonderful few days trying new activities like archery, kayaking, water balloon combat and cooking damper over a fire. It was a great experience for our students and they loved their trip to Berry. Regards, Aspect staff.
