“With faith as our guide, we nurture hearts and empower minds.”
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Annual Athletics Carnival at Beaton Park Sporting Complex was certainly an example of the wonderful community spirit we have at St Pius X. It is so affirming to witness and hear the sense of belonging that parents, students and staff experience within our community.
I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Mrs Kylie Hertsch who so capably led the day. Also, to the many parent helpers assisting on the track, field and at the BBQ. The gift of your time was greatly appreciated and the children loved the "Sausage Sizzle Station!”
Recently, parents, staff and children were invited to take part in a survey known as “Tell Them From Me”. This survey is pivotal in gaining a deeper insight into the school community and giving everyone a voice in setting the school direction.
The data was overwhelmingly positive and extremely affirming of:
- The opportunities given for all families to connect with the Catholic faith
- Our shared Vision that is known and lived in our daily interactions and practices
- Clear and concise communication
- Positive relationships with staff, parents and students.
What did we all suggest moving forward?
-Consider timing and scheduling of extra- curricular events
- Greater opportunity to receive feedback on student social and emotional well-being.
The Leadership Team, in collaboration with the Parents and Friends Executive will now review the recommendations and strategically plan a path forward.
Sincerely,
Pauline Chrostowski - Principal
Sacrament of Confirmation 2024
On Tuesday 11th of June and Thursday 13th June the 2024 Confirmation ceremonies were held at both Immaculate Conception and St. Therese parishes. Under the guidance of Father Duane, our candidates experienced beautiful and memorable sacramental celebrations.
During these ceremonies, our candidates were led through rites that mark an important milestone in their faith journey. Through the laying on of hands and the anointing with chrism oil, they received the gifts of the Holy Spirit, empowering them as full members of the Church.
As they embark on the next phase of their spiritual growth, we are reminded that the Holy Spirit will walk with them, guiding and inspiring them in their daily lives. Let us continue to support and encourage them in their commitment to living out their faith.
As a whole school community we would like to extend our congratulations to our newly Confirmed students and keep them in our prayers as they continue to grow in faith and knowledge.
Anxiety involves feelings of worry or fear about potential negative outcomes, accompanied by physical reactions like 'butterflies in the stomach' and behaviors such as avoiding anxiety triggers or seeking excessive reassurance. These emotions are natural however helping your child manage anxiety can significantly improve their well-being. There are ways to support your child if you notice an increase in anxiety behaviours.
Open Communication: Create a safe space for your child to express their feelings. Listen attentively and validate their emotions without judgment, reassuring them that anxiety is a natural experience.
Routine and Predictability: Establishing a consistent daily routine can provide a sense of security and reduce anxiety. Include regular times for meals, homework, play, and bedtime.
Relaxation Techniques: Teach your child simple relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or mindfulness exercises. Practicing these techniques regularly can help them manage anxiety in stressful situations.
Positive Reinforcement: Encourage and praise your child's efforts to cope with anxiety. Celebrate small successes and milestones to build their confidence and resilience.
Modeling Calm Behavior: Children often learn by observing their parents. Demonstrate calm and positive ways to handle stress and anxiety in your own life, setting a good example for your child.
Professional Support: If your child's anxiety seems overwhelming or persistent, consider seeking help from a mental health professional. Therapists can provide additional strategies and support tailored to your child's needs.

Stages of learning in Primary Schools
In primary schools, following the NSW (New South Wales) curriculum, education is structured into stages that correspond with key developmental periods in a child's learning journey. These stages provide a framework for organising teaching and learning activities, assessment, and curriculum content. The following outline how the stages correspond to grades and learning.
Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten): Early Stage 1, corresponds to Kindergarten and marks the beginning of formal schooling. It focuses on foundational skills development, including literacy, numeracy, socialisation, and emotional development. Students engage in play-based learning experiences designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and independence.
Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2): Stage 1 encompasses Years 1 and 2 and builds upon the foundational skills established in Early Stage 1. Students continue to develop their literacy and numeracy skills while exploring a broader range of subjects, including religion, science, history, geography, and creative arts in more depth. Instruction builds on academic competencies and independence.
Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4): Stage 2 spans Years 3 and 4, where students now consolidate their foundational literacy and numeracy skills and begin to engage in more complex learning tasks. They delve deeper into subject areas such as English, mathematics, science, history, geography, and technology. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration become increasingly important as students prepare for more challenging academic endeavors.
Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6): Stage 3 encompasses the final years of primary school, Years 5 and 6. During this stage, students refine their literacy and numeracy skills to a higher level of proficiency. They develop a deeper understanding of key concepts across various subjects.
Throughout each stage, the NSW curriculum provides a comprehensive framework that guides teaching and learning activities across all subject areas. Teachers utilise a range of resources, instructional strategies, and assessment methods to support student learning and monitor progress. Additionally, the curriculum emphasises the development of key competencies, such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, to prepare students for success in both academic and real-world contexts.

ROAD SAFETY
Walking safely
Always hold your child’s hand until they are 8 years old,
- on the footpath
- in the car park and
- when crossing the road
Until children are 10 years old, they should be closely supervised in the traffic environment and hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road.
Choose a safe crossing
Lead by example and choose a safe place to cross the road.
Stop, Look, Listen, Think every time you cross the road.
Discuss this important road safety message.
STOP! - one step back from the kerb.
LOOK! - continuously both ways.
LISTEN! - for the sounds of approaching traffic.
THINK! - whether it is safe to cross.
The pedestrian crossings on Cummins St and Hargreaves St are the safest places to cross the road.

Athletics Carnival
The day started well with all students participating at their level of ability in all the track and field events. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who assisted on the day to make it run smoothly. What a shame the weather turned and stopped us from finishing some of the events. Please read compass events for updates on when these missed events will be completed.
We will be holding a 200m race event on Wednesday June 26/6 from 12.45pm for participants ages 8-12. Ages will be heading to the oval one group at a time to compete. This is not a compulsory event.
Once all events are complete we can hold a ribbon ceremony and name the SPX team to go to the South Coast Athletics 13th August, at Beaton Park.
Netball Gala Day
Netball Gala Day is next Tuesday. Students from Stage 2 and 3 will be participating. We wish them all the best for the day and hope their day is full of good sportsmanship and fun.
We are looking for a couple more team managers so if you can assist please let Mrs Hertsch know.
